A massive winter storm sweeping across the U.S. is expected to bring snow to the Chicago area Saturday evening, with up to 6 to 7 inches possible with lake-effect snow.
The Chicago area will be under an Extreme Cold Warning on Friday. Local officials are warning residents to be ready for the brutal cold.
As a storm system departs the Chicago area, another blast of Arctic air will send wind chills plummeting overnight and into Monday.

Wind chills of 20 degrees below zero are forecast for Sunday night. O'Hare Airport records 4.4 inches of snow. Temps will rise to the upper teens early in the week, and no precipitation is in the forecast.
A Winter Storm Warning was in effect through 4 p.m. for Cook County with snowfall totals between 6 and 12 inches near the lake. There hasn’t been a lot of heavy snow throughout the area, with most communities seeing about 2 to 3 inches, but it was worse, around 4 to 5 inches, along Lake Michigan.
Heavy lake-effect snow is expected Wednesday and Thursday in northwest Indiana.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of Chicagoland for the majority of the day Sunday, followed by a Cold Weather Advisory overnight Sunday into Monday morning, with wind-chill values early Monday in the minus-20 to minus-25 range.
Meteorologists are expecting 45 to 55 mph winds overnight into Monday in the Chicago area. Temps could also drop overnight into the teens with subzero wind chills. Snow showers accumulating up to an inch are also possible early Monday.
